Growing evermore stereotypically feminine
Jul. 14th, 2010 12:39 pmI'm slightly worried about how I've started to take delight in picking out and using bathroom products (I mean not like toilet paper and stuff, that would be weird). A year ago I was still buying whichever shampoo was the cheapest, and whichever soap that smelled okay. That has changed.
These days I research soaps before I buy them. Not just how they smell or how cheap they are, but what's in them. When I read the labels I have some basic understanding of what's good for me and what's put in just to make them cheaper. I buy skin products online, and search several stores just to find the right deodorant or the right toothpaste.
It scares me a little.
My only excuse is that it happened naturally when I decided to start replacing my usual shampoos and soaps and things for cruelty-free products. That snowballed into researching ethical and environmentally safe products. Of course I can't be certain that none of the products I use doesn't screw someone over, but I've done my best to find some that were less harmful to animals and the environment and me.
With a smaller selection of products to choose from I think I found myself more selective. "Okay, out of this batch of products, which is more pleasing to me in smell and feel? Which is the most beneficial to my skin/hair/teeth/armpits?" As a result I found more enjoyment in using them too. It's a funny ol' world.
And don't you dare call me girly.
