You're probably sick of my blurry screencap spams, so I thought for once I could offer a real honest-to-God TOS pic spam. With, you know, proper photos.

I've spent ages trying to figure out some way of organizing them in groups but you know what, this is going to be slightly more stream-of-conciousness.

Oh, and I remembered another mark of great scifi:

That's right, unnecessary clinging.

Totally space boyfriends. In fact you should check out all those trading cards because they're INSANE. HILARIOUS AND INSANE. Sometimes the word "raspberries" pops into my head and I have to choke back laughter.

Every now and then I have to remind myself that the communicators weren't based on flip-top mobile phones, but rather THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

That's right. This show actually makes me forget that it was made in the sixties.

Speaking of mobile phones, I may or may not have this picture as the background on mine. T'Pring is pretty, okay?

And speaking of pretty...

I'm honestly annoyed at how attractive I find young!Shatner. He's so conformatively handsome.

I want to believe I don't have a weakness for conformative handsomeness, though obviously my love for classic Hollywood leading men blows that right out of the water.

Furthermore it troubles me that I know that the Shat's such a complete dick, I shouldn't find such an asshole sexy.

But he's such a charismatic asshole damnit.

The good folks at the Shatner Toupée blog insists this is photo features his own hair by the way:

That blog is pretty charming. They're just so darn passionate about categorizing the Shat's hairpieces.

Now as for Nimoy...

I have to admit it took me quite some time to see the appeal, but the more I watch him the more I find him sort of... unbearably pretty at times.

I've always been fascinated by what beautiful hands he has though. That isn't weird to think right?

He should have been a glove model or something.

(Leonard Nimoy wearing a Leonard Nimoy T-shirt. Popculture just imploded.)

He also had a totally sweet Buick:

BUT. Again to be perfectly honest; If I were on the Enterprise and alien sex pollen meant I could have my pick...

Guy in the middle. Every time.

That's it. My secret's out. I'M ALL ABOUT McCOY.

And the thing is that it's one thing adoring Doctor McCoy, but as I'm a behind-the-scene glutton I soon discovered that DeForest Kelley seemed like the sweetest guy in the world. Ever. His sense of humour, his modesty, his passion for animal welfare...

He's like the George Harrison of Star Trek. Nobody has anything bad to say about him (and if you now tell me "dude, didn't you hear? He used to rape kittens" or something, I'll hate you for all time).

So yeah, I got this awkward teenager crush on Kelley, and simultaneously adore the character he plays. Which is... weird, let me tell you.

He used to be such a hottie though (that's not to say he didn't go on being a hottie well into old age).

I don't care if I've posted this promo before. I NEED to find out where it comes from, which is why I'm searching for every single Western movie Kelley has ever been in. That is, if it's from a movie and not a TV series. I hope it's from a movie, considering how it's easier to track down obscure Westerns compared to individual episodes of Gunsmoke, Rawhide, The Lone Ranger, Stagecoach West, etc.

(I have to admit, when I first heard people referring to him as De/Dee, I was all "ugh, what, you gave him a cutesy nickname?". Until I discovered everybody used to call him De, and then my reaction was "OMG that's adorable!")

By the way, when I saw this I thought it was the most brilliant thing to write ever:

That is, until I saw this, which is THE BEST THING:

These guys are so brilliant. And I'm so easily entertained.

Moving on...

I want to be like Uhura when I grow up.

This might just be my favourite Trek picture ever:

There's just something about all the work that goes into trying to achieve that level of escapism; Alien planets, deadly battles, great drama... And then the director yells "Cut!" and what you have are a handfull of actors in silly costumes in an unbearably hot studio. It's sort magical that it works at all.

Also, no wonder how you often in the series see a fine mist of perspiration on the actors. Jesus they used a lot of lights back then.

Shat and Nimoy and Mad Magazine. Shouldn't be cute, but it is.

And everybody and their grandmother has seen this picture, but it bears looking at again:

Something tells me that scene didn't go that way when they recorded it. It's Kelley's face that does it for me. "DO IT DO IT".

Shat's all "NOBODY OUTSLUTS THE SHAT" but somehow Nimoy is the only one who catches it. HA.

These pictures just genuinely cheer me up.

What is this mad thrill I get out of these three barbequing and enjoying themselves while in costume?

Why would they be wearing costumes anyway?

And when are we going to get all the pictures in better resolution?

Oh and final lulz: THIS ONE:

Kelley has stabbed Shatner under a disco ball. Vulcan chick eating cake is intrigued. And mildly aroused.

I love this show.

So, I totally fail at internet-surfing and had never seen like half of these photos before. OH MY GOD. Unnecessary clinging! Space chess boyfriends! Leonard Nimoy wearing a Leonard Nimoy shirt! XDDDDDDD

And, <3, DeForest Kelley. :D I haven't read much about him, but from what I have read, and the few interviews I've seen, he definitely seems like the sweetest guy on the cast -- the only person, I take it, who got along equally well with Shatner and Nimoy and with the supporting actors. And he just seems so sincere and unpretentious about everything. Shatner is like MR. OBNOXIOUS SEXYPANTS, and Nimoy is an ~ARTIST~, but Kelley is just this wonderful guy. <333

I've got to admit, I think Spock is drop-dead fucking gorgeous, physically and otherwise; but if I had to pick between the actors, I'd go with Kelley, for sure.

I shall be running away and eloping with all these photos now, if you don't mind.

I have come across stories about Shatner being a total asshole to Kelley, and the thought genuinely upsets me. Like, more than any other Shatner stories I've heard. But then again they're always very vague and comes from dubious sources ("I once heard that...") and always seems to spring out of the WE WHO REALLY REALLY HATE SHATNER camp, so until further proof comes up I'm going to regard them as untrue. All actual proper sources (including Kelley himself) says that they got along swimmingly, which makes me squeeful.

CUTEST THING EVER AMIRITE. And those are just my personal pick of the series, I keep coming across more - I've got three or four others so far.

I have come across stories about Shatner being a total asshole to Kelley, and the thought genuinely upsets me.

Well, it seems like Shatner was kind of an asshole to everybody, but not necessarily out of actual malice. I saw a recent-ish interview (I wish I could remember where the YouTube link was, because it was quite amusing) where Shatner and Nimoy were talking about their Star Trek days, and they told this long story about how Shatner was sooo irritated that Nimoy would ride his bike to the lunchroom/cafeteria/whatever, because it meant Nimoy always got there ahead of everyone else. So they talked about all the ways Shatner tried to deprive Nimoy of his bike. One time he hid the bike in his dressing room with his Rottweilers guarding it. Another time, if I recall, he used ropes to pull it up into the rafters while Nimoy was away. A third time, he hid it in his car. (Uh, I think that's called theft?)

And in the interview they're telling this story together, and they're both laughing, and pouring water for each other, and Nimoy keeps interrupting to point out that Shatner is really not a nice person, but he seems genuinely amused about it all.

So, anyway, I know I would not be amused if someone were playing those kinds of pranks on me, but apparently Nimoy took it in stride, and it seems evident that Shatner never meant any real harm. He's just a really obnoxious guy. I'm not sure he can even help himself. And so while I suspect he probably was an asshole to Kelley, I think Kelley probably understood that it was just Shatner being Shatner. (Of course I have no real basis for this opinion except that I can't imagine Nimoy or Kelley would have remained friends with him for all those years if he was really such a jerk. So there you go -- one more dubious source for you. ;)

And those are just my personal pick of the series, I keep coming across more - I've got three or four others so far.

OMG. WANT. Would you perchance be willing to share them? Pretty please?

The ongoing bike prank is a pretty endearing story actually XD That seems more like good friends fooling around to me. But Shatner seems to just lack a few filters when it comes to people he doesn't have that kind of relationship with (the whole Takei drama, various guest actors who thought he was tremendously petty and inconsiderate on set, etc.), but I'm not very informed on these things. When I come across unpleasant stories I try not to read them.

But you're right, Shat doesn't strike me as a malevolent person, more like just Shatner being Shatner. After what I've seen of him and Nimoy together, it seems like Nimoy dares to call him out on it and rein him in as it were, perhaps that's one of the reasons why they're such close friends.

Would you perchance be willing to share them? Pretty please?

Your wish is my etc. :D

Yeah, this also is my policy. He's a jerk, I accept it; I don't need the details. Apparently Nimoy and Kelley liked him anyway, so I'm going to assume he had some redeeming qualities too.

Your wish is my etc. :D

EEEEEE Thank you! :D *saves*

Vulcan chick in next-to-last picture is Kirstie Alley, which means that photo comes from behind the scenes on The Wrath of Khan. Very nice.

ETA: And thanks for posting these, I should have said.

Ooh, that's Kirstie Alley? I've heard she was in one of the Trek movies (which I'll see as soon as I finish the series) but I'd never recognize her.

Cheers being a show my mother used to watch, I think it's just possible the first time I saw Wrath of Khan I recognized Kirstie Alley but wasn't sure who the other characters were.

I'm 80% sure the western in question is one of the OK Coral movies. Which you know, TOTALLY NARROWS IT DOWN considering the era. But it can only be retold so many times right? RIGHT?

Ooh, that does narrow it down, thank you! It's not Gunfight at the OK Corral though, I've just seen that. Wow, did he really pop up in more of them? Cool.
