Churchill's home again! Oh hi there honey, it's lovely to have you back again!

If you need reminding, Churchill is my laptop. He committed hara-kiri some time before the summer and it's only due to Kari and her heroic efforts he's back home here again, complete with a new brain (hard drive) and a... I can't think of an organic parallel to a keyboard.

So! Now I'm on a laptop that isn't completely rubbish, I can do the sort of things that you normally take for granted. Like not worrying about the space button falling off, or being able to transfer photos from my camera and onto the computer!

Yes, so here's a backlog of pictures I would probably have presented earlier, if I'd had the opportunity.

So our cat shelter's got a shop downtown (also run by volunteers), and this summer we had it renovated. I popped by and unscrewed a lot of shelves and painted some furniture. And met the love of my life:

That's me and Dino, my boss' parrot. Dino might be the most charming guy I've met in Bergen. He enjoys pizza, coke and mieowing (well he's my boss' pet, I wouldn't expect any less). Even when he crapped down my back I was still totally in love with him.

I want a parrot now.

And anyway, I've done a lot of strolling in Bergen this summer. I discovered where Keyser Soze lives:

And also found out that sadly, this rather beautiful grafitti down by my dentist's office has been covered over by some dull black tagging.

Oh and here's a teaser of the costume I've been sewing:

Now... CAT SHELTER SPAM

Summer is kitten season. How many kittens have passed through the shelter these past few months? I'm certain we must be close to three digits. Thankfully they're adorable, so they get adopted quickly.

We got a special treat this season though - a breeder had had a little "mating accident" (a Persian and an Abyssinian) and he dumped the result on us: A bunch of quite unique-looking kittens with long slender Abyssinian bodies and short little Persian faces :3

And hey, you might never have tried to have dreadlocks in a room full of kittens when it's medicine time. You sit down on the floor and WHAP - one or more kittens have attached themselves on your back just where you can't reach them.

Oh who am I trying to kid, I love that.

But sure, we've not only the kittens to care for. The adults, while not as baby-animal-cute as the kittens, have tons of personality.

Let's see here, the black one at the front is Platon, behind him on the left is Pelle II/Dudleif. Umulius is in the centre. On the right is Priscilla, and lying in the opening of the tent is Knut (who you might remember earned me that trip to the ER that one time), and fuuuurtherst back is Lucifer. All of them are still at the shelter.

Priscilla is especially dear to me:

I know I shouldn't have favourites, but there's something special about Priscilla, but I can't put my finger on it. In fact she's very shy, quite chubby and she's got a cataract on one eye. I fear she'll be at the shelter for a long time - hopefully I'll be proven wrong. I just want her to find a safe, loving home.

Right, wrapping up. I try hard to sound very matter-of-factly when it comes to the cat shelter. I'd hate for people to think that we're all pink-clad ladies who go around cooing "OOOHH THEY'RE ADOOOORABLE!" when in reality there's lots of hard work, there's always womit and diarrhea and infections, and while we combat that we get scratched and bitten and hissed at.

All that being said, OOOH I LOVE FLUFFY KITTY PAWS.

LOOKIT THAT LOVELY FLUFFY PAW.

My father had a bird or two in the house for a while, when he was dating someone who kept birds, and then he broke up with her and my sister got him a conure as a birthday gift. Until he got tired of the screeching and got rid of it. Not too long ago I read a nonfiction book about a woman who got given a parrot to foster and she had been wild-caught and then badly treated by her previous owner and it was just kind of a horrible experience for the year or two she had the bird until it escaped and died in the cold. And then she got offered another parrot to foster and he was just loving and wonderful. The point of the above stories being A) that branching out into an unfamiliar type of pet has a certain learning curve in terms of expectable problems and jobs, so B) do your research before deciding for sure you want one.

Also, I tend to have a braid running down my back to my waist, and I've had a kitty doing a Rapunzel act on more than one occasion, grabbing it or trying to climb right up it.
